My TARDIS

Description

The most fantastic vehicle in the Universe... the TARDIS. Epic and living and beautiful, a machine made with parts and technology which in many ways transcend what we call science, or what we could perceive with naked mortal eyes and minds, taken without permission by the only man who would ever truly be its owner. The Doctor has modified and maintained it for so long as to have practically built it himself, and as such it is a glimpse of what wondrous powers he contemplates. More than his means of transportation, it is all he has to call home. And like him, it is ancient, mysterious, wonderful, bizarre... and dark in certain corners. A world quite literally in itself.

It took me since grad school to make a cosmic gazebo. God, I might've put more work into this than any other single image I've ever done. Maybe sometime I'll post pictures of the model. Who ever knew building a time machine would be so complicated?
Anyway, it's done thank God. My idea behind this version of the console room was to take the "dimensionally transcendental" concept to the Nth degree. Or at least to make it... more Nthy. The time rotor (which from this view is unfortunately blocking the hat stand) extends up beyond sight, into a benign white light, and downwards into mist and shadow. The center is surrounded by six doorways, one obviously leading outside. The five others lead to various areas of the ship, each frame housing the entire section immediately within. In other words, the whole TARDIS (often thought to be the size of a small city) is contained on its own bridge.
I tried to incorporate little hints of each previous version... wanted to include that huge hexagonal overhead light from Hartnell's days, but it just wasn't practical. It ultimately grew into a kind of steampunk/scrap metal motif, which I certainly don't mind.
You can see that the Doctor's tried to freshen the place up a bit... he's placed a nice settee for companions prone to fainting, a gumball machine that never seems to empty, and plantlife of unspecified species. Those are paintings on the backs of the doorframes, mostly from famous historical artists, though one or two are from the Doctor's personal work. Well, he had to find ways to keep himself occupied for all those years spent indoors! He likes to think he's become quite talented (he thinks wrong).
And that's my TARDIS.

EDIT - 7/7/08: Didn't seem quite finished to me, so I gave it one more really good going-over.
