More class work, this time from way, way back. Maybe even from before I started working online. It's hard to recall. The assignment was to depict a fictional setting of our creation, showcasing original characters and story elements and so on. I threw my heart and soul into it, using just about every technical skill I knew back then and every character I could come up with. I was fairly serious about it... in an alternate universe, had I taken different paths, Eye of the Blue Flame might just have become what Zebra Girl is now. It never quite coalesced, but still... place in my heart, and all.
The plot involved a fantastical, medieval-esque world populated by anthropomorphic races. One day, a mysterious black substance seeps from the ground. It turns out to be alive, and begins to consume and mutate grown men and women and steal children from their homes. A single mother (the rabbit, center) sees her daughter taken and sets out on a quest to rescue her. Along the way she meets various colorful characters and learns a magic art involving the invocation and manipulation of a spectral blue flame, the only really effective weapon against the Darkness. This has the side effect of turning her eyes from their natural red to a vivid blue, hence the title. And now you know the rest of the story.
I'm somewhere in the picture, by the way. See if you can find me.
Oooh nice one.. and I spot you behind that pillar, wayy in the background to the right!

would I be wrong if I said it looks Ambitious? hmm It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if you started comics online with a story that was inteneded to always be serious rather than Zebra Girl, Which, to me, was never intended to be too serious but eventually became such..
OHHHH look at those little smilies.. I know where those were later seen.. can't remember the things name though.
Hard to tell with all the other devilbunnies sneakin' around. I thought that was you behind the pillar at first... what about up on top of that giant pipe thing that the big rabbitguy's holding up/pulling down/whatever? I don't think that guy with the emaciated waist and the darkness-swirly hands is you... hm. The guy in the robe... too stereotypical... the only other possiblities I see are A) face in the darkness, or B) you decided to pull a Dan Shive and make the single mom a gender swapped version of you, which is JUUUUUST a little too disturbing, even for YOUR comics!
I'd still love to see more of this... mebbe if you ever end Zebra Girl. Which, y'know, ossome comic, wouldn't wish it's end on anyone, but... ya. The premise sounds solid.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P
